It's easy to let yourself be consumed by the relationship when you've caught a case of full blown love. This can affect your life in many ways that aren't good for you. We've all had a friend who changed when she got in a relationship. She started acting different, hung out less, and became an island unto herself. This is how you can avoid making the same
mistake.
.................................................................
1) [purple]Don't alienate yourself from your friends.[/purple]
Make a point to spend at least one day a week doing something with them...and only them.
2) [purple]Maintain involvement in all the activities that you participated in before you found a mate. [/purple] Dropping your favorite activities will make you unhappy in the long run. Having a boyfriend should add to your life...not take away from it.
3) [purple]Realize that you and your boyfriend are two unique people[/purple] with separate lives, separate tastes, and separate desires. These differences should be celebrated, not compromised. Don't change who you are just to be more like your boyfriend.
4) [purple]Spend time alone.[/purple]
It's easy to lose your identity if you're always around one person. Set aside days and weekends where you do things without your boyfriend. Not only will this maintain your independence, but it will also be good for the relationship. Remember, too much of anything can be bad. Spending too much time with your boyfriend could make him feel smothered.
5) [purple]Don't allow yourself to be dominated by your boyfriend.[/purple]
It's easy for relationships to become one-sided when all the focus is on one person. Stand up for yourself and make your desires heard and catered to.
